Why did you pursue a career at Claret Capital Partners and what excited you most about joining the team?
I was drawn to join Claret for several reasons. Firstly, the team was working with exciting companies in high-growth sectors, which immediately piqued my interest. Additionally, the positive interview process with various team members gave me confidence in the organisation. It was also evident that there was a strong company culture.
Can you tell us briefly about your role at Claret and what you like most about it so far?
I am a part of the Portfolio team, where my role focuses on portfolio monitoring and analysis on the performance of portfolio companies and the fund. Our team also delivers the reports required by external stakeholders, such as investors.
What I enjoy most is the variety the role offers. Everyone in the company has been incredibly helpful in explaining things, and I really appreciate being part of a smaller team having previously worked in a much larger organization as a Management Consultant.
What advice would you give to others looking to pursue a career in this sector?
For those looking to pursue a career in this sector, my advice would be to not be afraid to go for it. I initially hesitated to apply for a finance job due to my non-traditional finance background, having studied English. However, I’ve learned that building financial knowledge incrementally, starting with just keeping up with business news, can go a long way. Venture debt, for example, was a new sector for me, and I am really pleased to be part of a growing fund in a growing sector.
What investment sector and sub-sector interests you most?
Med-tech – I find it fascinating how these businesses are disrupting and solving real-life problems. It feels like a really impactful use of our investment to enable them to scale.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
To not apologize for showing enthusiasm or a desire to learn more. Most people appreciate when you ask questions and seek knowledge.
A fun fact about you?
I am currently learning Arabic. After visiting Saudi Arabia in January, I fell in love with the language and the culture, which was a big motivation.
